Understanding data centers

Two seminars for everyone who works in or for a data center without it being their field

Roles

Who are the seminars for?

Many people work in or with data centers without it being their field: tradespeople and service providers on site, sales, marketing, HR, and procurement. For them, DCE academy offers two seminars as further training for newcomers and career changers, with no prior technical knowledge required. Both explain how a data center is structured, why availability determines every rule, and how the disciplines work together.

  1. Trades and service providers in the data center

Electrical, cooling, cleaning, security, logistics: anyone who installs, maintains, cleans, guards, or makes deliveries in a data center works within a system in which every intervention affects operations. Operators therefore control access strictly and increasingly require a credential from external contractors.

This saves you follow-up questions when you enter and protects against disruptions to ongoing operations.

    Good fit:Data Center Passport.

  2. Sales at operators, manufacturers, and service providers

Anyone who sells space, components, or services talks to planners, operators, and technical decision-makers. If you can place Availability Classes, redundancy, and key performance indicators in context, you hold these conversations as an equal.

This saves you a detour via your own technical team for every detailed question.

Good fit:Data Center Passport or Data Center – General Principles.

  3. Marketing and communications

Texts, presentations, and trade fair appearances in the data center sector are read by engineers. If you use the terms of EN 50600 with confidence, from Availability Class to PUE, you produce materials that hold up technically.

This saves you correction loops with the technical team.

Good fit:Data Center – General Principles, also as a video course.

  4. HR and procurement

Anyone who fills positions, plans further training, or purchases training has to assess requirements: what a task in the data center demands and which credential fits it.

This protects against qualifications that miss the task.

Good fit:Data Center Passport, plus a consultation to plan your team.

Two paths

Passport in one day or General Principles in three

The Data Center Passport provides orientation and safety for work in a data center in a single day. Data Center – General Principles is the starting point for everyone who wants to go deeper. The seminar is not an overview: in three days, it provides in-depth knowledge of all disciplines, availability, and key performance indicators; experienced professionals also start the Data Center Specialist training path with it.

All prices plus VAT; the same price applies in every format.

Third format

At your own pace: the video course

Data Center – General Principles is also available as a video course, in German and in English, each in three modules with videos and seminar materials in DCE Campus. You start immediately after your booking is confirmed and learn at your own pace. Exam, certificate, and price are the same as in person and in the live webinar.

  • German and English. Three modules each.
  • One year of access. From booking; start immediately after confirmation.
  • Same exam, same certificate. As in person and in the live webinar.

Outcome

What you can do afterwards

Both seminars lay the same foundation; General Principles goes deeper on every point. This saves you piecing together the connections from manufacturer documents and standards yourself.

  1. Define a data center. Explain what makes a data center under EN 50600 and why it is not size that decides, but purpose and the required availability.

  2. Place the disciplines. Name the building, power supply and cooling, fire protection and security systems, monitoring, and cabling, and show where they interlock.

  3. Understand availability. Place redundancy from N+1 and 2N up to the four Availability Classes of EN 50600.

  4. Safe in the data center. Understand and follow access procedures, Protection Classes, and rules of conduct (focus of the Data Center Passport).

  5. KPIs and the law. Read key performance indicators such as PUE and classify the requirements that the German Energy Efficiency Act (EnEfG) places on data centers (in the seminar Data Center – General Principles).

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

No. Both seminars start with the definition of a data center and explain the disciplines from the ground up, including the basics of electrical engineering and cooling technology. Technical terms such as Availability Class, UPS, or cold aisle are introduced before they are used. The seminars suit beginners and career changers as well as professionals from neighboring fields.

That depends on your task. If you work in a data center and need orientation, rules of conduct, and a credential for the operator, the one-day Data Center Passport is the right choice. If you talk, write, or make decisions about data centers and want to place disciplines, Availability Classes, key performance indicators, and standards in context yourself, choose the three-day seminar Data Center – General Principles. If in doubt, a short conversation with Thomas Wawra will clarify which path fits.

Yes, Data Center – General Principles: as a live webinar several times a year and as a video course. We offer the Data Center Passport in German; English on request.

Yes. Both seminars end with an online exam; when you pass, you receive the DCE academy seminar certificate, which can be verified publicly. More on the exam and certificate: Certificates and credentials
